Macbeth, Metaphor Writing
Metaphor: Look like the time, bear welcome in your eye, Your hand, your tongue: look like the inncent flower But be the serpent under’t – Lady Macbeth, Act 1, Scene 5
Explanation: In this metaphor, Lady Macbeth is instructing her husband to deceive the king, wear a mask that conceals his true self, to welcome him with open arms, but to have an ulterior motive simultaneously… as she says, to act as an innocent and gracious flower towards the King, as his true self/motives wait beneath patient and concealed by it. Serpents are considered to be inherently evil and sinister in nature and cn represent death, lies and destruction, serpents are also considered to be deadly
This is an excellent, detailed, succinct analytical paragraph. Nice work.
